I’m so excited to share this baked spinach dip with you today.
Spinach dip has always been a staple at any party I’ve attended.
Whether it’s been cold served in sourdough, or warm and cheesy. There is always spinach dip at the party buffet.
My personal favorite: is baked spinach dip with cream cheese. The flavors are much more intense, and it goes well with raw veggies, crackers, or pieces of baguette.
Baked Spinach Dip vs Cold
Baked spinach dip is a variation of the traditional spinach dip that is baked in the oven.
It is made with the same basic ingredients as regular spinach dip but is typically prepared in a baking dish and topped with grated cheese. In this case, I used mozzarella and parmesan.
The dip is then baked until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
This method of preparation gives the dip a warm, creamy texture and a slightly crispy top layer
Baked spinach dip can be served hot or at room temperature, and is often accompanied by chips or vegetables for dipping.
Ingredients for Baked Cheesy Spinach Dip
- Cream cheese. I used plain cream cheese, but you can use light cheese cream if you prefer.
- 0% plain Greek yogurt.
- Butter. I used salted butter since that’s what I always have on hand but unsalted butter works too.
- Frozen spinach. Thaw it and squeeze out any water with a paper towel.
- Red pepper. I tossed in an extra vegetable to this baked spinach dip recipe to add some extra color.
- Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle some parmesan in the dip and on top. I bought pre-shredded to make life a little easier.
- Mozzarella cheese. You can use regular or a low fat mozzarella cheese in this dish, but keep in mind regular one will melt better.
- Pickled jalapenos. Adding pickled jalapenos brings a little heat and an extra level of flavor. I’ve been adding pickled jalapenos to my creamy spinach dip for years and it kicks it up a notch.
- Garlic cloves. Garlic is the best, enough said.
What to serve baked spinach dip with
The typical go-tos are veggies and crackers, but let’s do a little deep dive.
- Vegetables: go for firm dippable veggies like carrots, celery, red bell pepper, cauliflower, broccoli, snap peas, etc
- Crackers. A strong cracker like pretzel chips or water crackers.
- Tortilla chips. Don’t use the thin ones, they’ll break.
- Soft Pretzel Bites
- Pita chips
- Pieces of baguette or sourdough.
How to make spinach dip in the slow cooker?
If you’re wanting to make a Crockpot spinach dip, here’s how to adjust the recipe:
- Add all the ingredients except the topping cheeses and cook on low for two hours, open the lid and stir so everything combines.
- Top with the remaining mozzarella and parmesan cheese put the lid back on and cook on low for another 1-2 hours. Just until everything is melted, creamy, and ready to go.
You’ll get a cheesy spinach dip that you can set and forget, plus it keeps warm during the party.
Can you make spinach dip the day before?
Yes, you can. I recommend making it the day before (but don’t top it with cheese), letting it cool to room temperature, and then wrapping the baker or cast iron pan in plastic wrap. Store it in the fridge overnight.
When it comes to serving it, heat the spinach dip mixture the oven and top it with the remaining cheese, and cook until bubbly.
How to make baked spinach dip
This easy baked spinach dip takes very little effort to prepare.
Simply heat the ingredients in a skillet on the stove until everything is melted and combined, top with cheese, and bake in in a preheated oven until bubbly.
