Store Bought Time Savers

If you’re wanting to save some time and effort, here are a few of my favorites potluck appetizers from the grocery store:

  • Shrimp ring
  • Frozen bacon wrapped scallops
  • Pigs in a blanket
  • Veggie tray
  • Fruit tray
  • Puff pastry (in the frozen aisle)
  • Meat and cheese tray
  • Frozen variety of holiday appetizers
  • Cooked chicken from the deli (if making a chip dip or wrapping it in bacon)
  • Balsamic glaze (like Nonna Pia’s) for finishing and caprese boards.

Anything that saves time is ideal. It’s good to have a mix of homemade and store bought – don’t burn yourself out entertaining!

How many appetizers for a Christmas party?

If you are serving appetizers only (no dinner), I would recommend 10-12 appetizers per guest. This is a rough estimate as you don’t know what everyone’s appetite will be. This is per piece, not per dish. Do not make 10-12 dishes per guest.

I always like to make more than what I need, leftovers are always a good thing.

For a small party of 10-15 people, I like to have the following:

  • Veggie tray
  • 1-2 dips (like a spinach dip or even something from the store)
  • A bowl of crackers, chips, pretzels, or whatever carby dipper you have on hand.
  • A small charcuterie board (or a meat and cheese tray from the deli).
  • 1-2 hot from the oven options (chicken wings, meatballs, etc)
  • An appetizer that’s no bake (cream cheese stuffed peppers, mini cheeseballs, etc).
