Base Ingredients for Low Carb or Keto Dip Recipes

Typically with low carb dip recipes, you’ll find that it’s made up with fat content. You’ll often find that these recipes will have a base of the following:

  • sour cream
  • Greek yogurt
  • Regular yogurt
  • cream cheese
  • cashew cheese base (for those who are dairy free or are eating more plant based foods)
  • mayo or Miracle Whip

After all, fat is flavor, which is why you will also find a lot of cheddar cheese (or really any cheese) in a lot of the dips you have a hard time resisting at a party (bacon is another delicious culprit).

Low Carb Serving Options for Dip

If you’re wondering what to serve with a low carb dip, here are some options (including chips and low carb veggies):

  • low carb crackers or keto chips
  • pork rinds
  • cucumbers
  • celery
  • cauliflower
  • mushrooms
  • bell peppers
  • carrots
  • broccoli
  • radish

There’s nothing better than serving any low-carb dip recipe than with fresh vegetables but here’s another option:

Proteins (meat) don’t have carbs, so if you’re living a low carb lifestyle you can use shrimp, chicken skewers, or beef kebabs to use to dip into a sauce (or use the dip as a dressing for your meat).

Garnishes for Dips (Make it Look Pretty)

A homemade dip is a perfect appetizer but sometimes it can look a little boring. Since the base of many of these dips lack color, you can make them stand out by adding some color.

Green onions – sprinkle this over any dip as green onions go with most. It gives it a pop of green (goes great with sour cream-based dips).

Sauteed or caramelized onions – great for a french onion dip.

Diced bell pepper – whether it’s red pepper, yellow, or green, this also adds a pop of color to any party dip.

Red onions – gives the dip a purple hue and a pop of flavor (looks beautiful when paired with bell peppers).

Chopped garlic – Adding a couple of cloves of minced garlic to dips (like hummus) also adds a burst of flavor (try it roasted too).

Your favorite spices – sprinkling the dip with paprika, chili powder, or even cayenne pepper are great additions.

Fresh herbs – dill, basil, parsley, cilantro all make beautiful garnishes for cold or hot dip recipes.

The Best Low Carb Dip Recipes

If the dip is lower than 20 grams of carbohydrates per serving, I’m going to consider it low carb for this round up. This does not count net carbs, we only looked at the total carbs. There is no definition of a low carb diet but it typically involves a daily intake of 100-150 grams a day.

If you’re looking for a keto dip, the daily allowance is 20-50 grams (5-10% of your total calories come from carbs). Dips are an easy keto appetizer to bring to parties. That being said, not all of these recipes are keto dips, but there are some that fit the bill.

Regardless if you are your guests are low carb, these delicious dip recipes are always a crowd pleaser in any social gathering.
