Instant Pot Beer Brats Ingredients
You only need three ingredients for this simple brats recipe (the three b’s):
- Butter. I used salted, but you can use unsalted butter.
- Brats. Whatever bratwurst you can find at the grocery store.
- Beer. Use your favorite beer. If you’re wanting keto beer brats, use a low carb beer.
I used an Instant Pot but this recipe should work the same across the board with the Ninja Foodi, Breville pressure cooker, etc.
What to Serve with Instant Pot Brats
- Sauteed onions
- Bell peppers (Saute these with the onions in a little olive oil and butter)
- Sauerkraut
- Cabbage
- Coleslaw
- Bacon
- Hoagie buns (hot dog buns also work)
You can also serve the pressure cooked beer brats with any of these brats side dishes (coming soon).
How Long to Cook Brats in the Instant Pot
When cooking brats in a pressure cooker, you have two steps: Browning the brats and pressure cooking.
The cooking time could depend on how thick the brats are, but with the variety I bought it took the following:
- Searing the brats will take 4-6 minutes.
- Pressure cooking the brats in the Instant Pot will take 6 minutes (not including the time it takes to come to pressure).
- It takes 8-10 minutes for the pressure to come down naturally.
What’s nice is that once you start the pressure cooker, you can walk away and work on other dishes or visit with your guests.
How to Make Instant Pot Brats with Beer
The instructions for making this recipe are pretty simple, I’ll break it down for you:
- Turn on the sauté setting and let it get hot for 2 minutes, melt the butter and add the sausages.
- Brown them for 2-3 minutes per side. It will take roughly 4-6 minutes to complete this step.
- Add the trivet that comes with the Instant Pot to the bottom and place the partially cooked brats on top. This will keep the meat crispy, yet tender. If you don’t have a trivet, it will be fine, don’t stress about it. The beer brats will still be full of flavor, just a little softer.
- Pour in a can of beer of your choosing, put on the lid, and seal it.
- Cook on manual high pressure for 6 minutes.Â
- I let it come down to pressure naturally, which took about 10 minutes.
